VDL Group consists of a large number of independently operating companies. To support this decentralized structure, Solvy developed a central web system. With this, VDL Group combines central control in the areas of security and branding with maximum flexibility for the individual labels.
Challenge
With 100+ companies in various sectors from automotive to high tech, VDL Group had the need for a uniform digital foundation. The biggest challenge was the enormous digital fragmentation: more than 100 different websites needed to be consolidated into one central, efficient system. The goal was to provide all companies with a website within clear frameworks for a consistent appearance, without limiting local marketing strength and sector-specific needs.
The main requirements were:
- One technical framework: no fragmentation of systems, but one maintenance model.
- Security & Governance: central control over security standards and role management.
- Local freedom: operating companies must independently manage their content and market approach.
- Brand consistency: a uniform appearance across the entire group.
Solution
Central management via Headless CMS
Solvy solved this challenge by setting up a multisite architecture with Prepr as a headless CMS. By completely separating content from the presentation layer (headless), VDL Group can work from one source template. This provides the stability of a central system while allowing labels the freedom to design their own website experience.
Modulaire component library
For building the websites, an extensive library of components was developed:
- Building blocks: local teams use approved blocks to build pages. This guarantees the brand style.
- Central updates: improvements to components are implemented once and immediately available to all labels.
Global and local content
The platform makes a smart distinction between different types of content:
- Global: Central information (such as news or compliance) is distributed from headquarters across the entire group.
- Local: Through an advanced roles and permissions structure, local teams manage their own specific market information.
Additionally, the framework has a central image library and an enterprise forms module for uniform and secure interaction with visitors.
Result
The web framework provides VDL Group with the control needed for an organization of this size, without slowing down the individual companies.
- Efficient maintenance: One technical framework for the entire group results in lower management costs and higher security.
- Speed: New labels or websites can be launched faster within the existing structure.
- Consistency: A global brand presence with the possibility of local interpretation.
- Scalability: The API-first architecture is ready for future integrations with other digital channels.
In 2026, VDL companies are migrated weekly to the new framework. By the end of 2026, more than 100+ websites will be running on this framework.
VDL is working with Solvy and its B2B marketing partner Partout. Partout supports a large number of companies in structurally increasing website performance, focusing on personalized content and improving lead generation by optimally using the unique capabilities of Prepr, such as personalization, A/B testing, and data-driven content.
